Nate’s Notes: Sharing Jesus

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 NIV

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Psalm 105:1 NIV

Chinese authorities recently shuttered a service that let people pay to sleep in windowless pods. There were questions about hygiene, according to local reports.

Perhaps there should be more questions. Flush with cash and buoyed by a billion-dollar boom in bike sharing, China’s venture capitalists have gone sharing mad, funding companies that allow users to share items including washing machines, basketballs and umbrellas.

Businesses based on sharing are sprouting up throughout the world. Houses, cars, bikes, and almost anything else of value is available for a price. This trend even applies to people. In Japan people who need friends may now rent them. Chris Colin of Business Week spoke to Miyabi, a professional friend. According to Colin,  “Miyabi’s career mostly comprises the small, unremarkable acts of ordinary friendship: Shooting the breeze over dinner. Listening on a long walk. Speaking simple kindnesses on a drive to the client’s parents’ house, simply to pretend you two are in love and absolutely on the verge of getting married.”

Christ followers have something far more important to share. Anything else that we give is temporary. However, evangelism can change someone’s eternal destiny. In the first passage, Jesus commanded His disciples to make disciples throughout the world. In Isaiah and the Psalms, we read that believers should make the Lord’s holy name known throughout the nations.

Our Heavenly Father trusts us with the duty and privilege to share the love that Jesus has given us.

Jesus would engage people in conversations and share truth through stories, the parables. He addressed people’s needs, asked insightful questions, and listened. Our Savior calls us to share the gospel through conversations and relationships. Evangelism is the natural outgrowth of our relationship with Christ. We don’t have to be professional evangelists or pastors to share our stories and the story of how Jesus has brought salvation to all who believe. We are not responsible for the results. The Lord only asks that we love and share the truth. We also have the Holy Spirit living in us. The Spirit empowers us to be witnesses and gives us insight and wisdom

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Jesus tells us that with faith the size of a mustard seed we can move a mountain. We just have to walk in love and obedience. Who do you know who does not yet know Christ? How can you connect with them? What activities, hobbies, or sports do you have in common? How can you show that you care for them regardless of their past or problems?

Resources for evangelism are available for free in many places online. We all can change the world and impact eternity through the power of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We are not responsible for the results. We are only called to be faithful and obedient.

Prayer: Lord of the Harvest, may we be faithful servants in sharing the gospel. May we courageously and wisely be fishers of men and women. Thank you for the example and saving grace of Your Son and the power of Your Spirit. Amen.
